Gatesville Municipal AirportSituated approximately a 1-hour drive from the Killeen and Waco airport's, Gatesville Municipal Airport offers this very important air transportation amenity allowing professionals and executives the ability to rapidly and directly access this mostly rural northern part of Coryell County.

Gatesville Municipal Airport is located at 137 Airport Road off of FM 116 in Gatesville. It is an uncontrolled airfield with a 3,500 foot runway. Aviation gas is available 24/7 with payment by credit card. There is a terminal and a courtesy car available. A total of 22 “T” hangers are available for rent for private airplanes. Aircraft repair and maintenance is available through Centex Aviation. A project is being designed to extend the runway to 4,500 feet, add a GPS approach and add jet fuel for sale.


Gatesville is located at the cross roads of US 84, a four-lane highway, SH 36, and FM 116 making Gatesville easily accessible for businesses, customers, tourists, and residents. SH 84 is one of the few east-west routes in Texas making it a valuable road system for economic transportation. The Texas Department of Transportation regularly conducts traffic counts and the most recent studies demonstrate that more than 10,000 vehicles pass through and around Gatesville on a daily basis.

Public Transportation

Hill Country Transit District (HCTD) operates The HOP, a regional public transit system that started in the 1960's as a volunteer transit service that has since grown to serve a nine-county area covering over 9,000 square miles.

HCTD's mission is to build, refine, and operate a safe, dependable, and effective transportation network that provides mobility, improves the quality of life, and stimulates economic development through the provision of rural, urban fixed route, and ADA complementary transit service for citizens and visitors of the Central Texas area. This expanding transit system is a valuable and important component serving our community as well as the region.
